Chaos on the front deck

The front deck is a lovely spot to sit.  Joe Brian has been having an afternoon pipe here.

Butch raccoon visited us in the night! Those opposable thumbs...

They look so benign in the night in the forest. But let your guard down and you are doomed!

Cinnamon was wary in the morning...

I still have the one remaining bird feeder up. I brought it in last night, since I had a bear on the trailcam on the back 40. He didn't appear on any of the other trailcams. He is a good bear.

In between cleaning the garage, I would rest on the back deck. It was a hot one.

We set out some things at the road for someone to pick up. The big thing was the log splitter. I've tried to sell it or pass it on and failed. Someone could use it. I can barely move it. At my age it is best to hire younger people and the professionals for these projects.

We put it out after the garbage and recycling was taken. People can use this stuff.

Things are heating up.

We were sitting on the back deck when a pair of swallows began to circle the flag pole. They didn't come back. I was disappointed.

Phoebes have hatched 5/5 eggs!

Life goes on!

I used to put stuff out in front of my Aussie home... here in the UK that's frowned upon, indeed, can incur fines or arrest! YAM xx

  2. So often I've found that if you put things on the curb (or in your case, by the road!) someone snatches them up. Good! Your porch looks like a haven -- who could resist it? Definitely not Butch!

  3. Wow, you sure have a lot going on.
Someone about 10 miles away posted that they had a bear on their trail camera. The city folks who'd move to our area started getting excited and decided not to let their children outside and asked for animal control.
Funny how people move to rural areas and don't expect to have wildlife there.
    Shrug.

  4. Raccoons can be little devils. I'm sure someone is going to be thrilled to get that log splitter!

  5. I could sit on your porch for hours and look out at all that wonderful wildlife. Always a pleasure to see what you have to share. When there are bigger items, we get parents whose kids when going off to college, snap things up very quickly to furnish dorm rooms, especially bookshelves and the odd side table, and more.

  6. I have to put my feeder away every night due to the raccoons.
We see people around putting things out near the street, with free signs. Take care, enjoy your day and the week ahead.

  7. From the little bit I could see the bear, it looked like a decent sized one!

  8. Oh Mr/Ms Bear wanted to see what your camera smelled like...not tasty at all, thank goodness. So funny that racoon likes pipe tobacco. I was just eating snacks at an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway and some people came by who said they'd just seen a baby bear around the corner. We put our remaining food in the trunk of the car.

  9. And so the summer begins with sitting on the deck and watching the baby birds.

  11. Oh boy, those raccoon thumbs are a force to be reckoned with! Good call on bringing the feeder in too. Definitely best not to test that "good bear" label. It sounds like you had a beautifully busy day between the garage cleanup and the deck breaks, even if the swallows teased you a bit. Congratulations to the Phoebes on a perfect five-out-of-five hatch.

  13. I always think a porch is a great place to sit a while.

    All the best Jan

  14. All 5.. that is quite a successful hatching. So many of the eggs in our nearby shrubs get eaten. We cleaned out our garage as well.. it ended up being a lot more eventful than planned.. I'll post about it next week.
