A beautiful day!

Off we went to Carleton Place. I had an appointment for a haircut. Before and after! Yes, I know. Not much of a change!

Their water fountain is looking good.

There is an old quarry on the grounds. Often there are birds in it.

From there we went to lunch. It is a nice, enclosed porch. Sadly, for us, there was a noisy group of senior men we had to move from the other end of the room. Joe took out his hearing aids, and that helped. The guys nearest us were dropping F* Bombs, happily Joe Brian couldn't hear them. 😏

They are known for their fish and chips. I should have stuck to that. I think all the protein is deep fried. I took half home for dinner the next night. The pasta was over cooked.

We took a drive around the area. It was a beautiful, sunny day.

While the restaurant overlooks the lake, we drove into a couple of these developments that aren't on the water. Joe Brian thought they'd run about a million apiece. Yeppers! They are pricey!

You can tell by the size of the lots. It's close to the highway and commuting distance into Ottawa. The lots are enormous by today's standards.

One can see how the older homes have trees and gardens.

From there we drove to see the water. Rideau Canal, Beveridges Locks. It was a nice walkabout.

  1. Nothing puts a damper on conversation like noisy restaurant neighbors. The rest of your photos look much more peaceful. Goodness, I wonder how much time the residents of those homes get to spend there, since they probably need two incomes to just keep up the expenses.

  2. I am not familiar with that fountain, but I recognized the property from passing by.

Fish and Chips sounds good right about now. I must try them someday. We've only been twice, most recently for breakfast. It was too hot when we went once for lunch last year. It was a warm day, but the plastic was still on the windows. Not fun.

  3. Even if a haircut isn't a massive transformation, just getting out on a beautiful, sunny day makes the trip to Carleton Place completely worth it. It is a shame the noisy lunch crowd nearly ruined that lovely enclosed porch view, but it sounds like Joe's hearing aids coming out was the perfect secret weapon to block out the chaos. Those enormous non-waterfront lots near the highway definitely show why people are willing to pay Ottawa commuter prices just to get a little extra breathing room and mature trees. Ending the day with a peaceful walk around Beveridges Locks is the absolute best way to wash down overcooked pasta and enjoy the sunshine.

  4. You look fabulous! Apart from lunch being a bit of a let down, what a terrific day you had! Isn't it lovely to see blue skies and green grass after all that winter white? You got a lot accomplished!

  6. Your harsh winters sure make spring look beautiful! So green and pretty. I love looking at real estate. Sorry the pasta wasn't right, that's disappointing.

  8. I like the new haircut, and those homes, huge upkeep, cleaning, windows galore, but when the grounds have shrubs and trees will look like they are lived in.It's always nice to see how others live.Years ago we drove past what was my Mum and Dad's farm Now all million dollar properties, It was subdivided many years ago.just recently one section, bare, no power or water or sewerage. just over 2 acres, sold for over 1.2. million NZ dollars. I guess the new owners will never know how many times I drove the tractor over that piece of land, feeding out hay or silage. Life continues so differently to those years ago.

  9. Uh, those lots and homes are more than a million. One of the first ones needs a new roof. Lovely lakes. Linda in Knsas
