This is the Mourning Dove in the tree. I keep mistaking it for a hawk, or a larger bird! We had 14 mourning doves on a bird count day.
We were sitting here, and something made me look up. Birds were flying about suddenly...
It ended up in the horse chestnut tree, then hopped into the evergreen, where the birds tend to shelter from the cold and wind.
It landed in the tree, then hopped into the evergreen. They are fierce-looking!
Hawks by Hawkeye. 😊
ReplyDeleteHawks are amazing, aren't they? So big! I love watching them soar on the wind.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteGreat captures of the hawk. Your poor yard birds must have gone into hiding. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Even in our urban garden we have the occasional hawk.
ReplyDeleteGood capture, though even zoom and slo mo couldn't tell a thing about him/her. Glad he perched for you to get an identifying shot. Poor doves didn't want anything to do with him!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a pretty Hawk and always perches so upright. I haven't seen one lately here but it's nice when I do. Stay warm this week!

ReplyDeleteExciting sighting! YAM xx
Little birds do not like having a hawk around.
ReplyDeleteYes, I saw a hawk take a bird in California and it was incredibly fast and you could almost feel the hit! Very dramatic! Thank you for your beautiful pictures. Aloha!
ReplyDeleteNice photo capture, Jennifer. No wonder the feeder birds are usually on high alert!
ReplyDeleteAll of the hawks look fierce to me - and no doubt to the smaller birds as well.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the hawk tries to catch the smaller birdies? Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteThose sharp shinned hawks, they are little but they have big attitude. Our squirrels watch them but don't run, the birds though get scarce.
ReplyDeleteThey are fierce looking. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteHawks are so beautiful, but I always fear for my cat. I think he's too big for a hawk to grab, I hope. We have red tailed hawks in Georgia.
ReplyDeleteFunny this guy wasn't sitting on a branch having dinner.
ReplyDeleteNice shots of the birds! Those hawks are always intimidating!
