Remembrance Day in Canada

There is a lot going on around Social Media on Remembrance Day vs. Christmas, i.e., don't put up Christmas decorations before Remembrance Day. I'm so tired of it. No one knows what is in our hearts.

I spent so many hours preparing with my students over my 25 years. We'd do at least two weeks of preparation prior to the day. We wrote plays and poetry, they brought in artifacts, and information from our family members who served, or were serving. We looked at data, and wrote web pages. We worked so hard. We'd have a respectful ceremony on the day of, inviting parents and veterans. Today, I've a doctor's appointment.

  2. Hi Jenn, I am all caught up on your posts now. I was sorry to hear about Hooper. You have your hands full with the new kitties but they do look so cute. Love to see what your trailcam displays. We keep talking about doing the same. -7 here this morning and we did get snow the other day. The season is marching on!

  6. There can be so much media hype about remembrance days, ( I am not against the ceremonies at all, younger generations need to know the HUGE sacrifices made ) or Poppy or Anzac days, and as the streets get lined with poppy sales down here, I always wonder if the money generated goes to those who fought, their families and the ones who really need it. We all remember in our own way. XXXX, and to the new ones too.Hope you have a peaceful night every so often.

  7. We don't put up our decs this early either, but I don't think Remembrance Day is the reason. It is just too early. But the Santa Parade is coming in two weeks, and we generally make an effort by then. I say we, but I mean Sue. :)

  8. What a great result of the project! I know your students learned a lot of valuable history.
Personally, I don't decorate for Christmas (*gasp*) but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate what others do--or when they do it!

  9. Yes, Bangkok has gone hideously early into Christmas decorations - in more ways than one! Veteran's day preparations look a busy time for you. Lest we forget.

  11. Powell River has a parade and ceremony at the Cenotaph. We missed it this year because of our trip. But we are on a U.S. Air Force base today. - Margy

  12. Jenn - kudos to you and your former students for all that you did to remember those who have served and continue to do so. I haven't seen the "chatter" about Remembrance Day vs. Christmas, but in a world with so many pressing issues, when we decorate for the holidays seems to be that last thing we should be discussing! Thanks for taking the time to link to Mosaic Monday!

  13. I've attended the national service again this year.

I know the Santa parade is being held this weekend, but I seriously doubt I'll be in attendance.

  14. We saw Christmas decorations well before Halloween here in Hawaii. I like calling the day Remembrance Day. I am very grateful for all those who served to make this world a safer place.
