House deconstruction!

BEFORE

I'd heard about it on Facebook. Apparently, it's a dangerous corner, with quite a few incidents. (I refuse to call them accidents!) I wasn't sure which house they meant.

The home has had a number of owners over the years. People on Facebook were commenting on it.

The Amers lived there in the 40s and 50s. The Fairfields in the late 60s, then the Hamiltons. As with small towns, people know one another and were commenting. The home owners that lived there 17 years had a doggie daycare. I used to smile as I passed them. The last owners did renos, and it was for sale. They are OK with the decision to demolish it to make the road safer. They took out things that were reusable.

During

Our local reporter, Desmond Devoy, wrote an article on it. He took a short video.

We drove home in the dark Friday night, after the two-day deconstruction. All gone.

I went back this week. The plan is to create a right turn lane across here. The traffic moves along highway #43 quite smartly, despite a 60 km reduction in speed through this little hamlet.

The ominous skies near Port Elmsley.

I love the line of clouds. Currently, it is snowing. Winter, bring it on. It is snowing.

It's snowing here too this morning. It looks so pretty, but I won't be singing that tune come March that's for sure. Let's hope for a mild winter! Dare we? :)

I can think of a very busy corner in Pembroke where they need to remove an obstructing house and create a wider intersection. It is a four way stop, close to the ambulance place and hospital. Close to an area where big trucks load. They have to use this intersection to get on to the highway. We've seen some very close calls here.

I hope the owners were compensated adequately, but a good decision. Guess when it was built the roads had less traffic and it was not so dangerous there. Darling Hooper, you both gave him so much love, and he thrived on all the TLC. Doing what he loved, out and about, remember all those good times together.XXXXX
