Lombardy Fairgrounds: a New Post!

On a trip to Smiths Falls, January 23rd, I noticed that the lovely masonry post had been smucked by the snow plow operator. So sad. It has a plaque, dating 1991, when it was erected.

If you've ever sat on a committee, you know how hard these things are to accomplish! I have eschewed committee work for my mental health!

July 5th

It sat, broken and abused, for 5 months. I passed by on my way to a client's house, and saw them begin their operation! It was a horribly hot day, as well.

They had a tight budget, but they hired a Merrickville firm to repair the work, reusing what bricks they could. The inner part of the post is made of concrete blocks, with smaller bricks around. I had noticed them working, grabbed a photo from the dashcam, and I started keeping up on it.
First job, setting up the bricks for easy access, while removing the broken ones. You can see the cement blocks that anchor the post.

The mason was asking anyone who stopped by where the original plaque was placed. On the front, I found out. He asked me if I knew which side the plaque was on, I thought the front, but couldn't remember. I told him I'd suss it out. Sure enough, GoogleCam was by on September, 2014 and the plaque was on the front! Hah!

July 9th

They covered it up over the weekend., we attended Art in the Barn and I snapped a photo.
 (We finally had some rain.)

I was back Wednesday, July 13th and it was completed! Good as new.

  5. Ontario seems to have many snowplow operators that are complete disasters. How could they knock something over like this monument?

  8. I am with you on Committee Work --- my last few years of work were filled with horrible stupid never get anywhere meetings (reorganizations, new bosses , etc etc) and when I retired I determined never again to go to a committee meeting or any meeting at all if I can help it.

I very much love what you have at the top of your sidebar about keeping a positive outlook and our sphere of influence. Words I need to remember; thank you for them.
