First incidents of 2015 - winter is here!

Ice skating on lakes from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.
It's not safe everywhere in Ontario, especially on bigger lakes, in the south. Emergency crews were called shortly after midnight Thursday to the area of Grigg's Island on Jack Lake after getting reports that two snowmobiles seen travelling on the ice had suddenly disappeared. Two men and two women were found safe having walked to a cottage.

  1. I was downtown today, and caught a glimpse of the ice on the Ottawa River. I'd be wary of crossing it even when the ice is at its best, let alone now. It can be a very deep river.

  2. It looks so dangerous but then I have't been further north where people can even drive on icy lakes in cars. Relatives of hubby drive their cars onto the ice for ice-fishing. I would be very nervous but again not having been brought up doing this. I hope no one got seriously hurt.

  4. Not growing up in snow and ice country, I'm not very confident about driving in winter conditions. I hate the feeling of the vehicle if it can't get traction. - Margy

  7. Is it just me that thinks it's crazy to take heavy machinery on a frozen lake?
