Firsts of the season: crocus, butterflies, phoebe

Species: Nymphalis vaualbum
Compton Tortoiseshell.
One that overwinters, and is rare!
It was verified at BAMONA!
This might be a successful rhododendron year!
I've killed several plants. SIGH.
Left several behind at other homes.

 I also saw a mourning cloak, as well as a phoebe at the frog pond!

    Oh, I'm SO jealous, Jenn. Flowers, frogs, butterflies. Sigh. Well, I can report having seen antelope twice. We had a couple of years when they didn't appear near our town, which borders Medicine Hat. Now they're back, and we're so pleased. We just do Lindy could see them, but must be content with remembering the first time she saw any. She was used to seeing deer on her walks, but antelope? Deer of a different colour? Sometimes, although I miss BC all the time, I'm happy to live where the deer and the antelope play.

    I heard a pheobe in the Peterborough area a couple of weeks ago! Every spring I wonder if my girl (or one of her offspring) will be back nesting under the eaves of my front door porch.
