August Was Deadliest Month So Far on Lake Superior in 2017
Five people drowned in Lake Superior in August, with four drownings in a 2-week ... On August 13th, a 59-year-old Michigan man also drowned in Lake ... on Lake Huron so far, 10 in Lake Erie, and 14 drownings on Lake Ontario.

Northern Ontario woman dies after kayak capsizes, provincial police say
KENORA, Ont. — Provincial police in northern Ontario say a 57-year-old woman died after a kayak capsized in a lake. Kenora OPP say they received ..Bruin Lake near the Manitoba border at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday

Bosch said boaters who drop anchor, have cooking facilities, pump-out head (toilet) and sleeping quarters can drink alcohol aboard their boats.
“They’re fine when those conditions are met. But when they pull up anchor and head back to shore, they’re in violation of the law,” he said.
Bosch said men in their 40s and 50s are the primary offenders.

The body of 28-year-old Shahid Iqbal of Woodbridge was located in Muskoka Beach Park Sunday, July 30th. 

As of July 24, there were 59 drownings in Ontario this year, compared to 53 last year in the same period, according to the Lifesaving Society.

Teenager pulled from water at Britannia Beach has died


Prior to the teen's death, there had been 54 drowning-related fatalities this year in Ontario — six more than at the same time in 2016, according to the Lifesaving Society, a water safety advocacy charity. 
There have already been 54 drowning related fatalities in Ontario this year. That's six more than this time last year, according to preliminary statistics

The high waters this spring in Ontario have resulted in early drowning incidents.  Between that, and the spring thaw, the water has been moving fast in Central and South Ontario.
Cambridge man dies after canoe capsizes in river northeast of Goderich
Friday, April 7th
 Police investigation determined that two friends were canoeing the rapid waters of the river, when they went around a blind corner and encountered a tree that had fallen. The canoe struck the fallen tree, causing it to overturn and trap St Pierre-Beke below.
Stanley said water levels in the Nine Mile River — running from Lucknow to Port Albert, where it empties into Lake Huron — were high and fast-moving Friday.

8-year-old boy dead, Toronto man charged after canoe capsizes near Bracebridge 
Also Friday, an 8-year-old boy died after a canoe overturned on the Muskoka River and he was swept over the High Falls. Police charged an Etobicoke man, 37, with impaired operation of a vehicle causing death.

Southwestern Ontario's drowning death toll has doubled from last year, with a month still left to go in the summer. It was a 64-year-old Stratford man. Sugden’s death brings this year’s drowning toll to eight in Southwestern Ontario, up from four last year. Most of the deaths occurred in Lake Erie.

Aug. 11: A 45-year-old Niagara woman goes under while swimming with a friend in Lake Erie, near Port Dover. She later dies in a Toronto hospital.
Aug. 13: The body of swimmer Hussein Da Silva, 19, of Hamilton is found in the water by passersby on Lake Erie’s Long Point beach. He had been swimming with friends two hours before.
Aug. 18: Walter Sugden, 64, of Stratford, drowns in Lake Huron at Grand Bend.
Aug. 21: The body of missing swimmer Jared Grieb, 20, of Ohio, is found off Fish Point on Pelee Island in Lake Erie.

Spike In Drownings Linked To Ontario’s Hot, Dry Summer

Public Education Director with the Lifesaving Society Barbara Byers tells AM980 as of this past weekend there have been 75 drownings in Ontario, up from 59 at this time last year.

The 24-year-old Bryan Phillips from Richmond Hill was boating with his family in the Narrows Locks area, near Sand Island, on the Big Rideau on Aug. 12 when he fell into the water. He was not wearing a personal flotation device at the time, said the OPP.
