Birds are still nesting

The pond is coming along. The bulrushes are growing. That's the location of the nesting box, the tree on the left. The metal is supposed to prevent critters from climbing up. So far, so good. I didn't even take Daisy with me, as I usually do. She meows and meows, talking to me...

I tiptoed onto the dock, to reset the trailcam, and I flushed momma duck. I feel so badly. But she seems OK with this.  With a bear in the woods, I don't blame her! She flew off into the wetland proper, just off to the left.

To my surprise, there were TWO tree frogs on her tree!
Since she left, I checked that the eggs were still intact. The tree frogs were singing in a massive chorus after dark. Thousands of them!

The owls are feeding their chicks. I heard them in the night, Papa calling, baby screaming for food inside the nesting cavity! I'm uncertain as to when they fledge, since I'm not sure when they hatched.

The other birds have been singing so prettily. With the bugs out in full force, they are happy campers. A yellowthroat in our spruce tree, and a sparrow.

The road construction doesn't seem to bother the critters. The noise is constant. It's difficult to get through traffic, but they are making progress! Lanark County Construction 2017

They are redoing the bridge in Smiths Falls, as well. You know there are only 3 seasons in Ontario, bugs, winter and construction!

You have a real nature preserve -- complete with a bear. I have been watching a pair of cardinals and visiting crows and bunnies. Also watching loads of traffic as I live near a well traveled road and the roadwork season is in full swing.

Sounds great. I have only seen one tree frog in my life. That was at Purdons.

The more you watch the critter the more you learn about them . Great photos today and everyday.
