Hawks – don't forget us!

The sexy birds, getting all the attention, are the owls. The hawks have a purpose in our winter cycle of life, as well.

My daughter & granddaughter were playing chess in the background. Here he was, out the living room window, looking over the feeder traffic. Slightly bigger than a blue jay, I thought something was up!

This is a two-year-old video. At the time, my birder friends ID'd him for me. A juvenile sharp-shinned hawk. I see him on a regular basis now.
Out our living room window, I spotted a predator! Experts tell me it is a Sharp-shinned Hawk. I've seen it before, swooping by the feeder. I believe it caused a Blue Jay and Grouse to smash into the window last fall.

I went for a walk along the highway. I knew there was a carcass, likely roadkill, along the way. As I walked, a hawk flew along beside me, and up into a tree. There was a lot of snowfall, about 5", on top of the carcass since I last saw it. The hawk flew off. There is a piece of deer hide up in the tree. It's the cycle of life!
