An Owl and a Bear...

I had another post all prepared, but after dinner we sat on the back deck. No bugs!
We are desperate for rain.

It was a hot, hot day. Momma owl was out today, in the heat, panting. I didn't have time for the videocamera!) Her beak was open, and I felt for her. Poor girl. Again, she looks into the nest, where chick was complaining, and hopped back in. It is more difficult to photograph
1) the mosquitoes are awful in the wetland
2) the leaves are out!

You know, you're enjoying the hamburger you just cooked and devoured.  Momma owl was hooting from on the tree.  Life is good, then Annabelle started to growl...
I'm glad I stopped feeding birds, as there is no seed in the feeder. We were sitting on the deck, as I said, and these photos I shot through the tempered glass. At this point, I stood up and yelled at him (it was clearly a male), and he sauntered off beside the 'bear crossing' sign.

Honestly, you might as well live in a National Park -- the most wonderful wildlife. Yeah, I think it is probably best you don't have birdseed out there -- it's lovely to see the bear, but you really don't want to encourage it to become overly-familiar with your backyard.

omgoodness, you really do live in the wild!!!

and yes, it's hot for everyone, i always think of the birds, providing them with fresh, cool water!!!

Maybe lots of bells hanging off the feeder, do you ever get scared of the bears when they come so close?

Bears are a marvel to see- as long as all they're doing is passing through. Good that you've given up on the feeders until winter.

Do the bears ever break into houses to get food? There are no bears where I live but lots west of here. They are a nuisance and break in cabins to get food.

@Jean, I was scared, somewhat, but I stood up and yelled at him, from the upper deck, and he took off!
@William - he is a regular passer through, apparently! At dinner time!
@Red - no! There are too many hunters about! They are hungry, but soon there will be lots of natural berries in the forest.
