Squirrels, a drawing or three

Happy  Paint Party Friday!

I spent yesterday afternoon at the kitchen table drawing, while the snow fell.

Here is an old one I'd done.

We have flying squirrels, red squirrels, black squirrels all over the place! The black squirrel, sitting on the railing in the snow, JB called Slow Eddy! (That was after a major snowstorm in Bala.)

First I tried Dea's cute cartoon squirrel for a warm-up.

Then I moved on to How2DrawAnimals. I used my photographs to help with the eyes, for example, and the light. After this, I thought about a background: the dock, the flower rock and Long Lake (see below)! Finally, you can see how I put these together in a trip back through memory lane (or memory lake!).
Our cottage, on Long Lake, Bala, Ontario –where we were from 1960 - 2010. I miss it terribly. I knew every rock, shoal and inlet on that lake, as well as the lake behind the trees in the background which fed it. I had many a wonderful canoodle there.  I walked around the lake: a sweet trip. Paddled on Mary Lake: Canoodling on a beaver dam pond - under blue skies!!

They're such cute, devious rascals. I remember the first time I saw a flying squirrel- very different!

I've been trying to do some line drawings in my journal lately. As long as I stay away from people I've been doing fairly well. - Margy

Your drawing is so lovely, but even more so your words, memories, nostalgia, and a huge longing to go back maybe. Was that a really happy time there? Do some more with pencils and paper, and make them all into a book of places, times and memories. You are a whizz at adding the right words for every page.

Your nature photos are all wonderful.
Such a variety of squirrels.
I was snapping some photos of our two rascals in a snow squall this afternoon. They had their tails tucked up behind them to try and block the wind.
Your squirrel drawing is fabulous!
Happy PPF

A wonderful post Jenn, you certainly have drawn a cute squirrel.
I don't have squirrels visiting my garden and feeders at the moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did come. I have three feeding stations around my house and spend a fortune on feed every month.
There is a wood near by and we do have deer.
We holiday at times in Saint-Sauveur, Quebec and so your photos remind me of great times. I now have a yearning to revisit... soon

It's sad to leave a place we've lived at for a long time and a place we really love. You are having fun with the drawing.
