Wood frog– tadpoles have back legs!

We went for walkies, me an' my buddies (Daisy and Annabelle). There were so many wood frog tadpoles.

I couldn't believe how many there are!

Hundreds of thousands of wood frog tadpoles in the frog pond. I went into it to get some shots. Daisy and Annabelle were on the shore meowing at me.

Egg masses

Tadpoles - teeny, tiny. Eating algae, growing.

I went back, with a net, to capture a couple of photos of them. They have back legs, now.
Lots of snails on the dead leaves.
Snails will be another photo-op later!
I took an oyster shell, to see if it would be better contrast. Not so much!

Their under bellies are quite oyster-like! While one shouldn't pick them up if one has bug spray or anything on hands, I went down without. All in order to do the research!

I walked into the pond, barefoot, too. It has a certain rich, rank odour, the dead leaves and vegetation in the bottom of the pond.
tough photographing them IN the water!
This is the adult, they hop about the forest,
or should I say 'woods!'

Loved the tadpole video. Amazing how fast these babies grow legs, absorb their tails and start breathing air. You are so lucky to have this fascinating pond nearby.

We aren't so much lucky, as blessed! My late parents were frugal and bought a Muskoka lake-front property in 1960. We sold it, the lake traffic was horrible, and split the money with my brother.

I was heart-broken to leave my lake. The citiots were terrible. This modest piece of wetland has been a blessing for us!

I cannot imagine walking in there barefoot!1 You are so brave... When I was about 8 or 9, I did linger by a tiny stream on the way home from school, walking about 1.5 miles, and play with the frogs... or so I was told long ago. How did your Monday go> Hugs to all.

It looks like you have a very healthy frog population there. We don't.

This is so cool! What fun! I remember looking at tadpoles when I was a little girl. I don't see frogs around here anymore. Sigh...

They're so cute! I saw tadpoles on Saturday, but they didn't have back legs yet.
