Birds, birds, birds

They are ubiquitous. Mostly, though, they are high atop our trees.
This song sparrow was a character on top of my flag pole/stick. I kept thinking 'headless horseman' as I watched it preen!

This is a Waterthrush, they tell me.  A new bird for me!

Once a year I capture the red-eyed vireo. This photo shows I am getting slower...not quite focused.

Then, as I walked by the Horse chestnut tree...look who is building a nest! The Waxwings.
I don't know if they are Cedar or Bohemian waxwings. They were here so many times, I finally got with it and hustled through the house, to the backyard, where they were flying. They are nesting in the large pine tree. I haven't a hope of spotting the nest, I don't think. It has to be a second brood. It's been an early spring, and they are doing well.

I love those cedar waxwings with their masquerade ball costuming. One year I put out perhaps a dozen, three inch pieces of string and they quickly snatched them up for nesting material.

Hmmm ,I wondered what the hessian was there for. and I guess the nest will be so well hidden.

Cedar waxwings. They are sometimes communal and many nests are in a small area. Sometimes they are still on the nest in Aug.

If the waterthrush is anything like his mistlethrush equivalent found here, he will have a fine voice! Delightful captures! YAM xx
