My first trail cam video –more to come, I hope!

Deer & trailcam from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.
Here is my first try capturing video. At the end, Sir decided to sniff the camera.

I set up the camera in the backyard. Justin Hoffman, my mentor, wisely suggested I set it up facing north:
Another good tip is to always set up your cam facing north. This will prevent back lighting, and the glare of the sun. Once you play around with it, you'll figure out what is the best height depending on what you are hoping to capture. When I set it up for the fisher, I put it low, but always do a test video and review it in the field before leaving it. In this case, I get down on my hands and knees, similar to the size of a fisher, and move around a bit. Then I know if that animal comes in, the angle and height will be perfect.

He has amazing footage and has inspired me to learn a new trick. I spotted my first buck with a single antler. I have to go out and see if I can find the one he shed! Big Daddy still has both antlers.
one antler!

Meantime, a pair of bucks were play fighting in the backyard!

lovely photos, I'm sure the video is too, but my computer won't let me watch that!

The bucks tussling is certainly fun!

Sir obviously knows that contraption is new, and decides to inspect it closer.

Fun stuff with the trail cam and great capture of the bucks sparring. You'll be finding those antlers before too long.

I think you should wait until your grand-girls visit to find that antler -- they'd be so excited about that. You are so good with your video and photo skills both!!

Super trail cam video, Sir is really nosey, they can sense anything new, and he smelt and sniffed, that is what I would call " Truly close-up and personal", Hugh's trail cam has a laser light so when he sets it up can make sure it is in the right direction. Hugs,Jean.

Oh my, just great. How lovely to see the deer walking to your garden ... looks like one told a friend, who told a friend, who told a friend and so on.

Some of these trail cams can give some good footage and some big surprises as your guy who decided to sniff the camera.

Excellent! We had the game warden out recently to install trail cams. We have had some trouble with poaching this year. It makes me very upset.
