Rideau Ferry Sept. 1st: Last day of summer!

Here are all the lucky people who are able to be on the water on Labour Day, the last official day of summer. It's strange all the hooplah, with 'back to school' specials, and the newspaper filled with what to wear, school lunches, and all that jazz.  I'm happy to be retired! Our Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTO) usually meet locally for a To Hell With The Bell breakfast!

We went shopping at the General Store and managed to find a parking spot. We took a walk down to the newly minted dock (our tax dollars at work!). It's a busy place with all the folks enjoying the last kick at the can. So far, even with small kids running about, they've been parking and playing safely! The new asphalt, the cement sidewalk for pedestrians, and painted parking lines, have been a help. I was relieved to see this. Kids are so unpredictable and parking lots are terrible places for incidents.

They just had a fishing tournament here, the green pins show all the places where you can put a boat in. It's a busy, busy lake, loved by many. It's lovely living in Cottage Country!

Rideau Ferry Bridge is the spot where the Lower Rideau flows into Big Rideau Lake. In the early development of Perth (1816), it was Oliver's Landing, where Mr. Oliver ferried people across the lake for a price (1816 - 1862)!

My favourite photo is that of the girls swinging their legs in the water while eating their ice cream! Unfortunately, a large boat zipped by and they had a bit of a bouncing on the waves!

Last days of summer! The best! :-) Our grandson has been in school for two and a half weeks already here, and we are still having triple digit temps (and won't move past that for another month at least)--but that's life in the desert! :-) Thanks so much for coming by my They Did What?! blog and my piece-fulness blog and commenting. I quit adding to They Did What?! because I wasn't finding many readers, unfortunately. I post to the quilting blog whenever I have something to share. So it's always nice to hear from someone there. Thanks again! Have a great week!
