Fungus, mushrooms and lichen - I like 'em!

Mushrooms
Here is a huge puffball mushroom I found at Murphys Point Park last week. As they rot, their white insides turn to spores and float away.

Found on Blueberry Mountain
Shaggy Mane (Coprinus comatus) mushrooms
One of the things we spotted on our trails were these mushrooms, shaggy mane. My friend, Margy, did a post on them from B.C. and I was so excited.

tall little soldiers!

I love the lichen in winter, when the white snow surrounds the rock.

Fabulous mushrooms and lichens! We sometimes don't think about the beauty in such things.

Good that you have made the effort to identify various mushrooms and lichens. I am ashamed to admit that I haven't made an effort to become familiar with the different species.

That's so great that you know what they are. I've always wished that I could tell which ones are safe to eat. These are very pretty.

We had many, many puff balls in our yard in VT last month.
My mother used to take us foraging for mushrooms in the fall. I don't quite dare to go without her.

I like'em too! We don't have any this year yet..guess it's been too long a dry summer. Maybe now that it's starting to rain we'll get some.
