Media: Local TV Matters.ca

Another great song/video from Dave Carroll, the writer of United Breaks Guitars.

There are huge issues with Canadian cable. We are losing local channels, and our choices seem to be bug budget US shows, rather than local, regional or national productions.

In part, The Facts on Local TV Matters reads:

Although support from our viewers is strong, local television has been struggling financially for more than a decade, and now we have reached a critical point. Advertising revenues for local stations have decreased and the traditional model of free local television is unsustainable. As it currently stands, your cable and satellite provider collects money from you each month for our service, but pays nothing to local television stations for the programming we provide. We are simply asking for what is fair – that cable and satellite companies pay broadcasters for the service that we provide and that the viewers are already charged for.
Visit them for more information. Stand up and be counted. I have ranted about media before, as we get little coverage of major news items, and yet hear about a car accident at Dawes & Danforth, for example.

I really appreciate your thoughtful take on Canadian issues. Though our countries share some problems, it also seems that some of the U.S.'s worst ideas seem to be gaining traction in Canada. Build on the good society your nation has worked so hard to create, and JUST SAY NO to whacko conservative stuff about privatising this and free marketing that.
