I want to laud the hands of all those who work in health care in Muskoka. Many people gave much care to my late parents as they passed away. Mom at home; Dad in LTC. On this Photohunt the theme is hands.
I gave my
father much care in the last months of his life. Mom sent me away and didn't think I had the strength to do this - I think.I loved to photograph Dad's hands. Limited to his wheelchair, incontinent and immobile, it was a hard time for me.
I spent a lot of time giving him the care that he gave me, as a beloved adopted daughter, I washed his face and hands, cleaned him up after messy meals, helped tuck his blanket in around him.
He spent his life at our Muskoka cottage hammering, repairing, building, raking, pruning,
clearing out bush and brush.
Dad loved his tea. I knew that Mom and Dad were very ill when they no longer had tea after dinner every night.
Dad's hands on the wheelchair - he was so angry being confined to this device.
For a handyman who had been able to fix anything - this was something over which he was powerless and angry.

Even with age your Dad's hands look strong. It is hard to see our parents age... mine are 80 and 81 and taking care of them is almost a full time job. But I can learn more about them as an adult than I could ever realize as a child.
My hands are here.
Jenn, I am so sorry for your loss. This is an amazing tribute to your father.
I have lost many loved ones and the memory of their hands at work seems to be what I remember most.
Beautiful tribute!
awww...sorry to hear this...
hope u already get over it :)
I love hands. I'm always moved by a baby's hand being held by a very aged hand.
Nice tribute to your dad.
Lovely post, I just lost my mom in September:(
